California is home to the second largest Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander (NHPI) population in the country, behind Hawaii. The majority of NHPI people in California reside in the Southern California and San Joaquin Valley regions. There are more than 330,000 NHPI from over 20 distinct islander groups living in California including, Chamorros, Chuukese, Fijians, Marshallese, Native Hawaiians, Samoans, Tahitians, and Tongans, to name a few, each carrying their own cultural traditions and languages.
